Brunswick Inn History
Well, Where to Start!!! The Brunswick Inn is part of the oldest purpose built self-contained railway community in Britain. Built in 1842 by the north midland railway company, it comprised of the Inn, 4 shops and 80 houses, built for the railway men.
Our buildings were earmarked for demolition but luckily had grade 2 listed status, the historic buildings trust became involved, and after much wrangle with the local authorities managed to restore the whole area.
This led to the pub being restored in 1984, and re-opened for business in 1987 as a free house. The brewery extension was built in 1991, and is today Derby’s oldest working brewery.
Sold in 2002, With 16 Handpumps and annual beer festival (Held 1st - 4th October this year), It has always been known as something of a real ale temple, and continues under the ownership of Everards to produce and serve beers of quality and distinction.
Pub of Character
The pub is a rabbit warren of different rooms, from the comfy lounge with its open fire, to the smaller family parlour and the snug, to the authentic stone flagged bar area, the pub has retained so much of its original 19th century character it can almost feel like stepping back in time. We also have a small yet cosy beer garden, as well as seating on the side of the pub so drinkers can enjoy a beer outside in the summer months.
We have a regular classic Jazz band playing every Thursday night (except school holidays) and we also have regular Comedy club nights, ring for info or visit www.funhousecomedy.co.uk
